Bizarre dreams make good fiction

This morning I woke up to one of the weirdest dreams I’ve had in a while. It’s rare for me to wake up with a vivid dream that I think should be written down, but here’s one from this morning’s anomaly:

Scene 1: The back of the train station

I was with a friend, A, who brought me to the back of an MRT station, into the track tunnels where the train journeys begin and end. “So, this is where you and your friends hang out?” I asked as I see a train start to pull away and the last carriage disappear into the darkness. From the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a group of teenagers sliding from the roof of the train into the gaps between two carriages.

His face was young, and he was probably about 18 or 19 years old. We sat on the floor with our backs to the wall, ready for a short rest. Just then he pulls out a medium-sized gas canister, with smoke all over the top like those used in theatrical productions, and strapped it to his shoes.

“Oh, so that’s what firemen friends do,” I thought to myself, because this friend in real life was a fireman. He strapped a can to my shoe as well and it was obvious that we were getting ready for an adventure. He also pulls out a seat harness, but instead of wearing it like trouser pants, he just puts one of his legs through.

Scene 2: Restaurant above the waters

The scene then jumped to a restaurant. We were both in a restaurant, but it was a glassbottom restaurant in an aeroplane, and it was flying above a place that I knew to be New Zealand. Below our feet I saw turqouise-coloured lakes with tree branches inside them. So clear was the water that I could see the natural deposits in them.

It was very much like Jiuzhaigou Valley in China, except that it was uglier and I couldn’t say that I didn’t like it because a person next to me was admiring it. Just then, my friend jumped off the plane, and I was taken by surprise because he had gone on the adventure without me!

Scene 3: At home in a HDB

The dream then jumped to my friend and I being at home in a HDB. Except that it was my family’s HDB, and we had no idea what he was doing there, acting like he was part of the household. He was sat in the living room with a red singlet, watching TV and eating our food. It puzzled my family and I, and we were in deep suspicion that he was hanging around for the holidays because he had no other place to go.

Scene 4: Ballroom above the train station

The dream then returned to the first scene at the back of the MRT station. Above it was a little door that led to an upstairs establishment, which happened to be a hotel ballroom. All my friends from church were in the ballroom, and the dream just ended there in the narrow corridor by the ballroom.
