Tom Lincoln’s House

This is a mood board post from one of my favourite films, The Island (2005), starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. It features the character Tom Lincoln’s house, whose fictional address is 3460 Seaside Walk, San Pedro, CA 90781.

I love the home for its sleek and minimalist designs, with plenty of natural lighting, use of glass, shadow play and monotone colours of no more than three to four palettes. Materials like concrete, steel and wood are contrasted with soft fabrics and plenty of plants and flowers (lilies are my favourite!)

It is most certainly a bachelor’s pad and a designer’s home, none of which I am. I’d like to think that taste is subjective, preferences are personal and good design is genderless. Now what’s better than Ewan McGregor? Two Ewan McGregors of course…

Notice the little objects such as the vases, the drinking glass, the trophy next to Renovatio, the coffee maker, and the antique nautical dial underneath the stairs. I particularly love the bookshelf and his sketching station. And now the dreaming continues.

  1. Literally my favorite movie. Great write up. It’s nice to see someone else have the same eye for brutalist bliss beauty. The film captures it well.

  2. Thanks Ramsey – brutalist is the word!

  3. This movie represents “Spectacular Vision” for a future with unlimited possibility thinking!

    Great acting by great actors!

    Thanks, Gary

  4. I love this house, I wish I could find the actual address with more photos/ information on it. I would love to replicate it so I could live in that exact house, so sexy. The Island is my favorite movie.

  5. where is this house located. I will pay whatever it costs.

  6. I must have the address for this house. I will by it or build a replica of this house.

  8. I love Tom Lincoln’s house, the exposed staircase with the bamboo behind and the use of angular concrete is brilliant. Very brutalist and cool.

I want to build a house with these elements or take great influence from it. It is a shame it is not a real house and is a set. Something like this in the real world would be remarkable.

The island is also my favourite movie, not for the action, nor Scarlett Johansson even though she is very pretty. It is for the concept, the intellectual workings of the plot and how the story is told. As well as the world that it is set in.

    Bravo I say, Bravo.

    Michael
